Mediterranean Diet

I had been following a vegan diet and my hormones were all out of whack. I was gaining weight, having trouble sleeping, and generally feeling bad about myself. My functional medicine doctor suggested I go on the Mediterranean Diet. Although that was a complete 180 degree diet change from where I was- I felt desperate to lose the weight and get my life back.

So, I started on the Mediterranean Diet and within 3 months I had lost 22 pounds and my hormones were much closer to being balanced. For me, it’s been a game changer. Plus, it is generally known to be one of the healthiest diets in the world. So read on if you want to learn a little about this diet☺. Menopause is a natural biological process that marks the end of a woman’s reproductive years. It is usually accompanied by a variety of physical and emotional symptoms, including hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, and weight gain. One way to manage these symptoms is through diet, and the Mediterranean diet has been shown to be particularly beneficial for women going through menopause. The Mediterranean diet is characterized by a high intake of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and legumes, as well as olive oil and fish. It is low in red meat, dairy, and processed foods.

This way of eating has been linked to a lower risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. Research suggests that the Mediterranean diet can also help manage symptoms of menopause. For example, one study found that women who followed a Mediterranean-style diet had fewer hot flashes and night sweats than women who did not follow the diet. Another study found that a Mediterranean diet supplemented with extra-virgin olive oil improved sleep quality in postmenopausal women. In addition to its potential symptom-relieving benefits, the Mediterranean diet can also help women going through menopause maintain a healthy weight and lower their risk of chronic diseases. This is important, as women’s risk for conditions such as heart disease and osteoporosis increases after menopause. What do you have to lose by trying the Mediterranean Diet?
